Dr. Farooq Adil (Renowned Political Analyst): Dealing with the hurdles in passing of constitutional amendment and removing those hurdles is a part of democratic process. It is being said that there is a consensus over the constitutional amendment but the truth is that there are some groups who are against the amendment. It is very important to know that why there is opposition to this amendment. The basic fundamental of any decision making in any society in the world is that the decisions are based on constitution. If the decisions are being made without consideration of constitution or these are affecting the constitution, then it is a very dangerous situation for a state. To get rid of this danger, a constitutional amendment is needed and if this amendment is made then it is a very good thing.
There is no problem or danger to opposition in this amendment. All the opposition parties, including PTI, have talked about the constitutional courts in their manifesto. If there is any opposition, it is not due to any principle, it is for a time being, temporary and it is a group’s interest. If you give preference to temporary interests and ignore the larger interests of the nation, then it is not good for the county. Due to this, we faced damages and losses recently. Those who are in favor of this 26th Constitutional Amendment are striving to protect Pakistan from damages in future.
