Analysts hope Malaysian PM’s visit to Pakistan will further cement Pak, Malaysia relations
October 02, 2024

Dr. Muhammad Khan (IR Expert): It is a great development that the Malaysian Prime Minister is on a historic visit to Pakistan at the time when there are certain conflicts across the globe. The visit will open new opportunities for our economy. We must be hopeful for the positive outcomes of Pak-Malaysia ventures in the long run. Pakistan-Malaysia relations are based on common values, mutual respect and enduring friendship. There exist many areas where Malaysia is a good experience and Pakistan may learn from Malaysia. There also exist some areas, where Pakistan can contribute to Malaysian developments. Thousands of Pakistani youth are studying PhD and Master level programmes in Malaysia. Malaysia has become one of the major contributors in human resource development for Pakistan. Malaysia has great expertise in halal foods whereas Pakistan has huge potential in halal food, which will be exploited fully with collaboration with Malaysia. Through SIFC, Malaysia can invest in different sectors in our country including IT, agriculture and many others.

Dr. Talat Anwar (Economist): The visit of the Malaysian Prime Minister to Pakistan is of vital importance. Malaysia is a brother country that developed itself at a fast speed. The Malaysian government heavily invested in human resource development. In the era of 60s, Malaysia was behind Pakistan economically but because of liberal policies and market-oriented policies. Malaysia is going to be an investment hub. Malaysia can support Pakistan in commercial technology to uplift the economy of our country. We must be hopeful that the Malaysian Prime Minister during the visit will sign certain MoUs and agreements for stabilizing the economy.

Dr. Noor Fatima (Economist): Malaysia is an important Islamic country and shares lot of values and culture with Pakistan. Malaysia is the country that brought itself out of the economic crisis. Malaysia is a big market for Pakistani rice whereas Malaysia is a big producer of palm oil. The foreign policy of Pakistan is focused on to strengthen bilateral and trade relations with other countries particularly the Muslim countries. It is good development that the incumbent government is looking for new markets of trade and modern technology. The Malaysian Prime Minister is accompanying a high level delegation and many agreements are expected to be signed between the two countries. These agreements will definitely include Malaysian investment in different sectors. There is a huge potential of trade between the countries and n\both countries need to take advantage of it. Pakistan has a youth bulge and Malaysia can support Pakistan in technology transformation.
