Zameer Asadi (Economist): We have to understand that the IT sector have a great potential not only in Pakistan but globally. It is transforming the economic landscape of various countries. Countries like North Africa or Latin America who have transformed the economic situation just because improving IT sector. If we talk about Pakistan, the potential here is remarkable. The students in various universities are doing a great job. They need to be equipped with modern IT skills and the latest development in the industry. With the provision of right IT infrastructure, better internet connectivity, and better eco system of IT sector, it may help Pakistan in improving economic system. The free lancers of Pakistan are very famous across the globe and they are earning millions of dollars which is helping revenue generation in Pakistan. Most importantly, I think the government and our education sector like HEC; they should evolve some kind of mechanism that could create more awareness of the IT sector in the country to attract young people.

China is already helping Pakistan under CPEC to help Pakistan’s IT sector. We can learn from China to further develop this sector. Many young people are indulging in IT sector and if we talk about the gender gap, this sector could also empower women who could work from anywhere remotely which could help them to contribute in the development of economy. The Information Technology sector no doubt have potential for Pakistan and we should not ignore its importance.
