PM stresses speedy disposal of tax cases

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has inaugurated the FBR Performance Management System to ensure transparency and improve services of the Federal Board of Revenue.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony in Islamabad on Friday, he said FBR officers with the best performance will be given public recognition and honoured with promotion and financial benefits, while inefficient ones will be censured and penalized.

Terming the FBR Delivery Unit a valuable asset, the Prime Minister hoped that it will help align the tax system with contemporary requirements and increase revenue of the country. He said the process of digitalization of FBR is ongoing, which is a step forward towards enhancing the Board's performance and transparency.

Shehbaz Sharif further said the revenue receipts witnessed a twenty-seven percent increase as compared to the previous year which is a quantum jump. He stressed the need to expedite the process of disposing of tax related cases worth billions of rupees pending before various platforms including internal revenue system, custom and sales tax. He said revenue generation is inevitable to get rid of loans.

The Prime Minister also emphasized the need to make the Track and Trace System more effective. He said modern technology is being introduced in different departments including Customs for prompt service delivery.

On the occasion, Shehbaz Sharif was given a detailed briefing about the PRAL, digital invoicing and performance management. It was told that a data-based decision-making system is being introduced in the FBR, in which data on payments and asset purchases will be taken from NADRA, banking and other sectors. 

It was said that steps are being taken to implement a modern and automated system in FBR in line with international standards to increase the tax base.

It was informed that the entire value chain is being digitized as per the Prime Minister's vision of reforms. It was further said that over thirty-five companies joined the tax system.
